People "still need contact lenses" after laser surgery

03.09.2008

Those who opt for laser surgery to correct their vision should be aware that it may not be a permanent procedure, an article has highlighted.

Jo Cantrill told the Daily Mail that the beneficial effects of her laser surgery deteriorated over a six-month period and was told by her optician she needed to wear glasses or contact lenses again.

She pointed out she had paid £2,500 for the procedure and had not been advised her eyes could revert to their original condition.

Laser surgery uses ultra-violet to reshape the cornea and around 100,000 people in the UK opt for it every year, according to the Mail.

"However, opticians are reporting a large increase in patients needing glasses or contact lenses following the surgery," it continued.

Some people may decide that the cost of laser treatment for a few months of benefit may be too high and prefer to stick with their contact lenses.ADNFCR-1853-ID-18760059-ADNFCR
