Bausch & Lomb receives approval for Akreos lens

19.09.2008

Eye health company Bausch & Lomb, which specialises in contact lenses such as SofLens and PureVision, has received approval to market its Akreos Advanced Optics Aspheric Lens.

Akreos is a brand of intraocular lenses produced by the group for use in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery.

The lens is made from a foldable acrylic in a single piece which is designed to be aberration-free and implanted with a Bausch & Lomb inserter during surgery.

Dr John Hunckeler, who is a clinical professor in the field of ophthalmology, said the lenses will benefit his practice and provide "excellent outcomes" for patients.

"Surgeons can be confident that they are using a technology that improves vision quality and will enhance the lifestyle of their patients," added the company"s senior vice-president Brenden Sheil.

Bausch & Lomb currently offers a range of contact lenses, including dailies, multifocals and coloured lenses.

The group was founded in 1853.
