Bausch & Lomb receives approval for Akreos lens

Eye health company Bausch & Lomb, which specialises in
contact lenses such as
SofLens and
PureVision, has received approval to market its Akreos Advanced Optics Aspheric Lens.
Akreos is a brand of intraocular lenses produced by the group for use in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery.
The lens is made from a foldable acrylic in a single piece which is designed to be aberration-free and implanted with a Bausch & Lomb inserter during surgery.
Dr John Hunckeler, who is a clinical professor in the field of ophthalmology, said the lenses will benefit his practice and provide "excellent outcomes" for patients.
"Surgeons can be confident that they are using a technology that improves vision quality and will enhance the lifestyle of their patients," added the company"s senior vice-president Brenden Sheil.
Bausch & Lomb currently offers a range of
contact lenses, including
dailies,
multifocals and
coloured lenses.
The group was founded in 1853.
